An Ancient healthcare system established in China approximately 2500 years ago which is now practiced across the globe.

Treatment involves inserting extremely fine needles into specific points in the body to regulate the flow of Qi (chee). Qi can be loosely translated as ‘life force’ and travels along pathways in the body known in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) as meridians. In TCM theory, illness can be categorised in terms of deficiency, excess or a blockage of Qi in these pathways. Treatment aims to restore the normal balance of Qi.

The needles used are much finer than a needle used to take blood, for example, and most people will not even feel them being inserted. A mild tingle or dull ache for a second or two is normal and can be a positive indication of Qi being affected. Many people feel deeply relaxed during their treatment.

Acupuncture is very safe as long as it is delivered by a properly trained individual.

There may sometimes be a small bruise at the site of insertion of a needle but this is rare and harmless.

The initial consultation will involve taking a detailed health history and information of current state of health. This will enable the acupuncturist to make a comprehensive diagnosis and treatment plan. Initial consultations and treatments will take 90 mins.

Subsequent follow up sessions will be approx 50 mins with the average needle retention time of 20 mins each session.

There is no set amount as the number of treatments needed depends entirely on the individual. It will normally be more frequent in the beginning, such as weekly visits, and then less frequently as your body responds to treatment. Chronic or long-standing conditions may take time to improve whereas an acute problem may respond much more quickly.

The cost of each treatment is £55 regardless of whether it’s an initial consultation or follow up session.

These additional modalities would be used at the discretion of the acupuncturist and dependant on diagnosis. They would also require patient agreement and would be discussed with the patient prior to use.

Electro-acupuncture is where needles are placed in the body then connected together using small clips. A wire is connected to a device that delivers small electrical impulses which activates your acupuncture points more quickly. This is most frequently (but not exclusively) used for Muscular Skeletal Conditions and pain and can be extremely effective.

Cupping treatment involves the therapist putting special cups on your skin for a few minutes to create suction. It is used for many purposes, including to help with pain, inflammation and blood flow.

Gua Sha is a treatment that involves scraping (traditionally using jade) over the skin in upward motion in order to produce light petechiae (small, red-like dots under the skin). The process is believed to help blood flow and can create a “lifting” effect on your skin, which some say may help lessen toxins in your body and promote healing.

It is best to wear loose clothing to allow easy access to your arms, lower legs, back or abdomen. It is helpful to bring along shorts and a T-shirt if possible. There is privacy within the clinic for changing.

It is advisable to eat a light snack or meal, allowing time for digestion, before your appointment.

There is parking close by either immediately outside the front entrance or in the side roads opposite (New Road and Johns Road). Or if you prefer there is also a paying car park at Meopham Station which is a one minute walk from the clinic.

There is a waiting room, refreshments and a WC within the clinic space.
